Worthington Daily Globe reporter Julie Buntjer recently profiled a class of 11 women taking part in the University of Minnesota Extension's I Can Prevent Diabetes class in Nobles County. Members of the class, which is geared toward Hispanic participants, are achieving health benefits after four months of participation. They've lost a combined 150 pounds so far, reduced lowered blood pressure and achieved drops in their cholesterol levels.

The course is led by Extension SNAP-Ed educators and incorporates exercise, as well as ways to nutritious meals for families. Coming next is a Cooking Matters class, which continues the emphasis on preparing healthy meals.
